Kevin O'Neal is a Grammy winning bassist. He is a brilliant writer, arranger, director and composer known nationally and internationally for his innovation with improvisational based music. He has lent his talents to diverse artists including Outkast, Tracy Chapman, The Busboys, Kevin Toney, Crystal Lewis, Nnenna Freelon, Brian Setzer, Anointed, Otis Day, Freestyle Fellowship, Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr. and many others.
Mr. O'Neal got his start in music with his brother, when they started The BusBoys. The group took their rhythm and blues roots and fused them into a multidimensional rock and roll sound. Their work has been released on four major label albums, including the multi-platinum soundtrack for Ghostbusters which earned a Grammy nomination. The group toured extensively, either headlining or co-headlining with many top acts, including Linda Ronstadt, Brian Setzer and The Stray Cats, ZZ Top and Eddie Murphy.
Mr. O'Neal also leads and directs Radiant Voices, a vocal ensemble specializing in original jazz music. They have worked with late jazz drummer Billy Higgins, singer Barbara Morrison, bebop jazz pianist Barry Harris, and Jazz Crusader Stix Hooper. As well as Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Keb Mo, Sheryl Crow and Garbage. Mr. O'Neal composed the music and score for Walter Mosley's "Black Betty" and the musical North On South Central, where Radiant Voices are the featured performers on the original soundtrack CD.
Mr. O'Neal is currently writing and performing with his group, featuring vocalist/actress Patrice Quinn. Kevin & Patrice tour nationally and internationally, and are currently in production on a new film, featuring performances by Kevin & Patrice and all new compositions.
